Digitising turntable - camera

Hi All,

I'm putting together a turntable for digitising / 3d scanning - something along the lines of this:

Automate 3d scanning with arduino

Essentially, it will rotate the object a certain number of degrees, pause, then take a picture, all quite simple really.

I don't at the moment have a suitable DSLR, so trying to figure out the camera side of things though. A couple of options occur:

  • Some way of triggering my iPhone from the Arduino. I have seen some suggestions that bluetooth might work, but not sure how to proceed.

  • Alternatively, a cheap camera module of some sort; but I would like it to be quite a decent size imagine, 10mp or so, and this may make it too expensive. I haven't seen anything that quite fits the bill yet.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I did a similar project a while back. I used a Bluetooth remote camera trigger button to trigger my son's smart phone. I put the button in a small fixture with a servo. I would turn the platform, stop, actuate the servo to push the button and then repeat till the number of frames was reached. Kind of clunky, but it worked.
