Dim 12V led from long distance

I tried to make a light dimmer by connecting an Arduino to a MOSFET, and the distance between the two was around 10 feet.

My set-up isn't working for me.

I believe the Arduino signal supplied via cat5 cable is insufficient to reach the MOSFET.

Is it possible to dim a 12 volt led from a long distance?

edit: The 12v Led has its own power supplies

I am not sure about that.
But anyway simply put the FET at the Arduino end of the cable.
