DisablingAutoResetOnSerialConnection - Different serial ports on Mega?

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to disable the Auto Reset when I read from Serial / open the Serial Monitor (writing seems to be no problem), but the two non-permanent options here Arduino Playground - DisablingAutoResetOnSerialConnection with the resistor or the capacitor don't work for me (no idea why!)

I'm using the Arduino Mega 2560, and under the topic "Software settings to disable the DTR pin on the host" from the link above, it says "Here, the only non-HW solution seems to be establishing the serial connection through a different serial port on the arduino that only has the RX/TX lines, which is currently only possible with the Mega andthe new Leonardo."

So now my question is, how is this possible? I've never used anything other but the "normal" Serial port and don't know how to use another serial port or which one only has RX/TX lines.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Did you use a 10uF capacitor between Reset (+) and Ground (-)? That always worked for me.

Did you read the entire thread pointed to by that playground article?
