Display numbers/text from LilyPad

Hi all! This is my first post; I hope I'm not in the wrong place.

Does anyone have advice on how to output a legible two-digit number from a LilyPad? I see that the LilyPad LEDs at Sparkfun are sold individually, rather than as a matrix that I could render characters on, and standard serial Matrix LCD displays aren't designed for the LilyPad. Any suggestions on what to use?
