Distance Calculator with 433 MHz module

Hi evry one
I would like to know if I can build a distance tracker with a 433 MH radio frequences module. (I'm sure i can but the question is : Is this technical good or not ? )

it's for a long range measure (0 to 1 Km) in a cleared area and with the minimum consumption possible

and if you guys have some others ideas don't be shy

Thank all

If you use the 433MHz device to transmit the GPS data from your remote site, and you know the position of your current site (may need another GPS is both sites are mobile), yes, this is doable, within the limits of accuracy of GPS.

Ho sorry i forget something : No GPS. I don't whant to use any GPS module. But tanks for your reply

A very long length of string then?
A very accurate clock, a theodlite and hope the sun keeps shining?

Any idea of using signal strength as anything but a VERY rough guide to
distance is wishful thinking.

Using time-of-flight requires careful attention to modulation scheme, and I don't think is
really possible with any cheap available ISM modules out there. Remember 1km = 3us.
