Distance sendor 14C01

Does anyone here may help me with an example to use this sensor (http://www.futurlec.com/Datasheet/Sensor/14C01.pdf) to calculate the distance ?
I tryed to make this example but did not work.

I've been trying to use this sensor too (see my post on the General Electronics forum), but I'm still puzzling over the transformer required in Figure 4 of the datasheet. One of the posters recommended I give up as it's frustrating without an oscilloscope.
