I'm studying Arduino right now, and I'm thinking of starting the following project. But first some backstory: my boyfriend is starting a job in another city and I've been thinking of getting him a gift (considering we'll see each other less often). And, of course, what better gift than the Bond Touch bracelet? I'd love to buy a pair for us, but I think making one makes it a whole lot more special. (we are both programming/computer science majors)
(info : using the bond touch bracelets, you can send each other vibrations - when you touch one bracelet, the other one vibrates)
Do you think it's possible I recreate them? Can you give me some ideas about how I should make them? (Sorry, if it's a dumb question, I'm new to this.)
The bracelets are to be connected by bluetooth to our phones. Our phones then are to be connected to the Internet. I mean.. Idk, any ideas?
It’s a great idea…
The two hardest challenges will be power and the vibration in such a small volume.
What radio are you thinking about ?
Maybe something like AirTags, that uses the neatest BLE device as a gateway..?
Define your operating parameters and power budget, and see if you can find a small rechargeable cell or multiples, and wireless charging (lucky the shape of a band offers some ideas for the charging loop.
The vibration might e tricky…
If not a rotating/vibrating motor, maybe a tiny push-pull solenoid (or spring return), that can be triggered as needed to create physical movement of mass in the smallest space.
With some careful SMD design, it sounds like it’s completely achievable. And a lot of fun.
