Tell me, are the boards for the 20 x 4 and 16 x2 the same? Is it just the displays that are different?

The 20X4 shield PCB is bigger but has the same set of hardware and software support. You have a larger display. You can plug the 16X2 display on the larger shield and it still works, just won't be the prettiest shield on the block. If you put a 20X4 screen on the smaller shield, you are covering the buttons.
What other color are you looking for? I only have black text on green background but I can help you determine if another screen is going to work on this shield.
