Hi all,
Does anybody know if its possible to use an Arduino UNO Rev3 with a Optical Incremental Rotary Encoder for playing ETS2 Truck Simulator?
I dont realy need extras like buttons, shifters, pedals etc, but I do need a DIY solution to read 900 degree Wheel Rotation.
I want to use this encoder.
Hi all,
I was hoping time would come with answers. I want to mod my truck steering wheel so it can be used as a Racing Wheel. I want to use an Arduino Leonardo as a HID controller. I found this video: DIY arduino forcefeedback steering wheel | PART2 | CONNECT THE ENCODER - YouTube with a special firmware for the Leonardo to use it as a HID controller for games like ETS2. All fine but my cheap Chinese Incremental Optical Rotary Encoder wont work with it.
Anyone know a good rotary encoder for this?

Sorry, your old this link no longer works. Can you update that please? I can't read the part number off the photo. I'd like to see the wiring diagram.
I'm sure there's a hundred encoders suitable for this. The mechanical mounting is going to be more important than the other characteristics of the encoder.
If you only have an incremental encoder then you're going to need some other way to set the zero position. Another switch or optical sensor to find a known point on the rotation. That would have to be geared down from the wheel rotation because it must only switch at one point in the whole 900 degrees of travel.
