DM542 Stepper Driver; red error-LED is continuously on

Hi,

I am an engineer but completely newbie in Arduino technology.

I have purchased two DM542 controllers and two Nema 23 stepper motors for my Arduino Uno board.
During the very first tests, yesterday, I used just one of the motors and one of the controllers and could move the motor-shaft in both directions and with several speed with AccelStepper directory. So I was happy...

But this morning, the red error-indicator LED of the driver is continuously on, as soon as I switch the external power supply on (Geti GLPS 3010 - 0 ... 30V, 0...10A) .

I think this problem does not come from Arduino because the symptom is the same in case of AccelStepper or direct motor control as well. Even more, if I unplug each input and motor coils from DM542, only the VCC and Gnd remain contacted, the error LED will be on in this case as well.

Obviously, I have already tested this problem with the other motor/driver set a few minutes ago as well (which has not been used at all so far...) but the result is the same.

So I am completely lost... I do not think both drivers have failed in the same time. (Or, I will buy a lottery immediately.)
I measured the output of the power supply as well but that is also okay. I measured its transients with oscilloscope; there are no obvious peaks.

Does anybody have any tip? (E.g. should I clear the error somehow?)

Thanks in advance,
Attila

Is it the 542 or 542T?

Just 542, without any extension. Both are the same.

Unplugging the motors while the unit has power can damage the unit.

Yes, I know, thanks. I did not do that.
Especially, in case of the second unit; it was "out of box" test.

What do you think: this is okay that I just plug the power supply "+" and "-" in the VCC and Gnd connectors (in the right order of course) and nothing else is attached, in spite of it, the error LED is on???

I am afraid these controller units are failed. One of them was failed already in the original carton box, and the second one could work just a few minutes...
