dmx protocol

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could tell if I could use the dmx protocol to receive data instead of transmitting it. I want to listen 50 sensors on the same arduino board. is this something that can be done?

I was thinking in using this dmx module - http://www.tinker.it/en/Products/DMXInterface Would it be suitable for the job.

thanks s

What kind of sensors are you gong to use ?

I found this searching online. Dunno what has to be done to make it work on the arduino. http://avr.15.forumer.com/a/oddbudman39s-dmx-receiver-gcc_post442.html

@MikMo - I was planning to use switches (push buttons) or distance/presence sensor. It want to know an object/person has gone through a certain point.

I mean if there's any other way of getting loads sensor reading into arduino I am opened to suggestions. I was also thinking about demultiplexing. Maybe... i am starting to look at this on the Playground section. if anyone knows any good tutorials/site on the subject please pass them on.

thanks

If you just want to interface many switches / pushbuttons, you can multiplex the digital inputs. Check this tutorial:

http://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ShiftIn

Connecting many distance or precense sensors is more complicated.

@MikMo - Woa thanks this link. I think this could definetly do it. Does it also handle PWM or is it just on/off? Do you know if there is any other tutorial similare to this but for PWM?

thx

I have found this tutorial about PWM multiplexing. I haven't read it yet but it looks promising http://www.arduino.cc/playground/Learning/TLC5940
