Do I need a heatsink?

I touched the top of a 7833 regulator yesterday - this pic was taken 24hrs later - I think I might need a heatsink!!

G.

Heatsink is for crybaby!

Use a supraconductor and you won't heat-up anything ;D

Everytime I touch something to see if it is overheating, I think "why did I just do that?!" I'm guessing you had the same thought when that happened....

I think I might need a heatsink!!

Nah, just put some bondo on that finger dent and sand it down, will not even show.

Lefty

Did you expect sympathy?

The trick is not to press down when you make your initial contact.

I once dropped a soldering iron and then instinctively caught it, then dropped it again. But only once. ;D

Mike, It took me 2-3 drops before the instinct to let it fall kicked in. Now its about moving my shoeless foot out the way when soldering at home(who am I kidding, I take my shoes off at work).

I guess I am not as lucky as you Mike. After all these years, I still manage to grab right onto the soldering iron at least once a month! :-X

I guess I am not as lucky as you Mike.

As lucky or as smart? ;D

As lucky or as smart?

Timeout! >:(

I had a similar mark to that thanks to a diode I was not paying attention to

it went away after a couple weeks, though the time I was pushing a 556 timer into some card stock and it seated in my finger hurt much worse

All I have to add to this thread is tell you:

Never, I mean NEVER, solder naked.

Did you expect sympathy?

Not at all! If I don't get it from my wife then I'll hardly get it from you lot!!

My 5yo daughter did show some concern, before skipping off into the distance!

Ouch! Were you mono-stable or astable afterward!?

G.

defiantly astable

I would be fine and forget it, but then I would "go high" in pain by mashing it or something
