Does an absolute encoder only support SSI output?

Hi,

The question is like stated in the header, "Does an absolute encoder only support SSI output?"

I need an absolute encoder for controlling a stepper motor, but using the SSI output is not an option.

I am therefore curious to know whether an absolute encoder with another output even exists, or if I have to use a signal converter.

Thanks in advance!

The answer to my own question was: No.

It is apparently possible to get a hold of an absolute encoder with an analogue interface.

There are absolute shaft encoders with direct digital output.

10 turn potentiometer?

This is an absolute encoder :- http://uk.farnell.com/bourns/eaw0j-b24-ae0128l/encoder-rotary/dp/9358234 it uses SPI.
