Does power need to be supplied to the Motor Shield and Arduino Uno?

Hi guys,

Just a question regarding power supply. Do I need to supply power from my external battery source to both the Arduino Uno and Motor Shield? Or can I simply just supply to the Motor Shield.

Thanks in advance, Firedawn

Depends on what motor shield you have, their are lots.

The Arduino needs powering some way though. But the grounds of the two must be connected together.

Its a Arduino Uno Rev3 and an Arduino Motor Shield Rev3 so they should be completely compatible. I'm trying to draw a schematical diagram of the setup and not sure how to show that the two Arduino modules are electrically connected.

Says here that you should supply 7-12V to the Arduino via the motor shield, recommended 9V max. At that point you should cut the trace and give the Arduino its own power.

The Battery supply is 8.4V so that would work, my question now is, which pins/ports on the motor shield to which pins/ports on the arduino uno?

Read the same link.... tells you there.

Oh right... Thanks heaps!
