Good morning Arduino family, I need help with an idea. I'd like to put a sensor onto my dogs collar that sends a text or alert to my cell phone when the collar passes a stationary sensor at my gate. What I'm looking to gain out of this is if my back yard gate is open and my dog passes that threshold with the collar Ill receive an alert. Id also like to incorporate GPS. Any help getting started would great.
Great Idea! Cant believe I didn't think about that
Not sure if you are being sarcastic. Some people might actually be satisfied with a store bought solution. I didn't post it as a joke, although it is a little "tongue in cheek". Also you might get some ideas from it.
If you want to make your own, just start with the building blocks first... play with GPS and make it work, play with the gate sensor and make it work, play with sending texts and make it work etc. etc. then put it all into one.
There is abundant information online, about all of those separate elements.
If you have trouble with any of these, post the code, circuits and a good explanation and you will get help.
Did you try typing "dog collar sensor" into the forum search box at the upper right?
GPS may (likely) not be accurate 'nuff to detect the dog-through-gate scenario.
I suggest just keeping the gate closed and a switch sensor on gate to prevent it being left in open position.
Half and half. I've considered buying it from the store, but what fun is that? I'd rather get the satisfaction of building and programming one myself. Thank you for your suggestion buying it will give me a base platform to work with.
