Downhill Skiing people

Hi group

Do we have any skiers here on the forum?
I know it is my third generated topic, I am studying the code and reading most of the posting.

Trying to go skiing on Thursday up in Ct. I have not skied in 5 years. Covid really took at hit at the resorts.
I am sitting here with one boot on the foot with the bad bunion, had not skied but retired as hockey coach and referee so my foot was abused hundreds of hours in a carbon fiber boot. The foot feels good looks like a go. The rest of the body has had some medical conditions of the last year. But mentally this is something I need to do.

The star of the woman's ski team is still recovering from her crash at Killington, Vonn skied out at her race today.

point the tips downhill and let it rip

I used to have a time share condo at the foot of the hill in North Conway NH (we were from southern Ontario Canada) until the state took it by eminent domain for a highway. That was the same year I finally found boots that fit. I haven't gone skiiing since and no longer can due to poor health (for skiing) You will find the skis are a lot shorter now, and lift lines longer, other than that gravity still works like always.

I know skis took a big jump in design in the 90's.
My lengths go from 155 to 212 my downhill super G skis.
My boots fit great for racing boots, I wore out my liners. Bought 4 NOS pairs of my same boots. Then I had 4 new pairs of liners. These boots you put liners on then the shell. Then Covid hit I will use the new liners for the first time on Thursday.

Good luck!
I really miss skiing, but I can't afford it anymore.

Dump the skis and the bunnies. Snowboarding is much better on abused knees, hips and ankles, learn how to survive catching an edge. The footwear and clothing are as comfortable as pajamas and uggs. Thank me later.

Many... many.... eons ago, yes.
But now???

Ditto....

PS. Yes we have snow in Australia.

I know there is racing at Thredbo.
The first time I changed in locker room with my first tibia pleatau scar on left knee I was welcomed to the club by the rest of the racers. They all had knee surgery.
Ya my body is abused but had a lot of fun with it.

I will always be a skier not a snow scrapper.
My first masters race I had 28 hours of total snow time at 45 years old but I had many thousands of hours on ice skates. Finished near last but I finished.
At 67 now I have a couple of hundred hours on skis that will always be my choice.

I survived.
Did 3 runs in the past I do between 5 to 10. My first two runs were embarrassing you could have used a sand dial to keep time, my third run was 10 seconds faster than my first.
My third run I attacked the course started to get my old self back . But I knew it was time to stop. Planning to go again next Friday.
Meant a lot to get in race runs again with the on going medical issues.

Well the Worlds are taking place this weekend. The Downhill event has concluded with an American winning her first world cup race Breezy Johnson. Lindsey should have stayed retired she finished 15th.

I missed a ski day yesterday do to reaction from chemo and hormone crap. The coming snow is going to screw going for the next few days.

The good news is Mikaela Shiffrin notches 100 World Cup win. She won in slalom .61 seconds ahead of second place.

I raced with my son yesterday and he was second in his class and I was third in mine. So we both got hardware. Trying to get one more day of racing so I get a national ranking.
It felt real good to be back on skis. Today my body is sore as hell but I can't think of a better way to abuse it.

Chemical Enhancement therapy, is that allowed???

Hope chemo is working...

PS. Remission = 15 years

We will know more on Wednesday when results from bone biopsy are given to me.
My pain killer is what recently became legal but this is all recreation stuff no real record keeping except for personal records. It is benefit races I run in yesterdays was for Make A Wish.

IMO hockey is a much safer sport, at least when you limit yourself to adult leagues. I stopped playing ice hockey at 50. The mind said "go" and the legs said "No", lol.

I played hockey till the start of Covid. I was a HS Varsity coach until last year.
Lost my ability for good shots after several crashes in slalom where I landed on my shoulders.
As Grandma used to say it all fun till someone puts out an eye.

If somebody is planning to organize a skiing competition among Arduino programmers over 50, count me in, please.

"As Grandma used to say it all fun till someone puts out an eye." or if you age out of all your sport hobbies. I guess that's a great reason to have an arduino hobby.

From chatGPT;

There once was a coder, quite nifty,
Who programmed Arduinos past fifty.
On skis, he did race,
With circuits in place,
Debugging while gliding so swiftly!

"After that run, my knees need a firmware update."

Going up to Okemo to ski with my 75 year old friend on Friday who has been national champion in his age group several times. So age plays a part if you want it too. Of course I have a complicated life this was a hour old when taken yesterday. At this point I have 3 fuzz balls bouncing and sleeping in the brooder.

And all wanting to be fed.......

They have food pellets, corn bits, bird seed, oyster chips and water. But most important they have each other, they sleep in a pile together. The crazy demented behavior starts in about two months of age.

Yesterday one of the older birds that I let out of the cage decided to jump in my lap, he freaked flew back to table and ran and hide in cage.
