DRIVER: Cannot copy to specified target [SOLVED]

FINALLY!!!! i have solved the puzzle
i have been uninstalling any software which might have even the slightest effects on drivers and file installations and that's how i sorted out the conflicting program:
some sort of setting-combination in my ESET smart security was conflicting with my drivers
by changing the settings to default (or reinstall eset) i have resolved the problem, and i am now (agian) fully able to install all drivers!

PS: see attachment 3_1 for arduino error. and view all other for more details

hey, i have been off arduino for a while but i have decided to start a new project again. however, setting up my arduino environment is a bit troublesome;

my computer somehow just will not install any driver. including arduino's driver. i had fresh installed Windows 7 x64 on my machine two weeks ago, installed all updates, and installed all other software required by my machine.

but four (4) of my devices just refuse to install their drivers, who previously worked fine. please see below attachments also.

i have searched on the main issue of windows update bieng unable to "copy drivers to the specified target", without success  . i found Zero info.

if anyone has an idea what is going on here, i am all ears!

motherboard; asrock 970 extreme4
BIOS (UFTI) Version; Newest (P2.60)
cpu; AMD FX-6300
PSU; 650W
OS; W7 x64 Home Premium SP1
Updates: yes
security: Antivirus + Firewall (ESET Smart Security)
Manufacture; no (costum built PC by me (always worked fine))
changes since problem: fresh installation of OS (previously used W8(.1) x64)

thanks,

nick

SOLVED
I managed to do a recognize by Windows 7 x64:
the idea is Mis que la Windows update, a PID REPLACE counterfeit a 0x0000 instead of 0x6001 chip, I tried changer pid With Find A program ftdi, but I did not succeed, suddenly I thought if the chip is the pid 0x0000 I Will modifying the configuration file driver http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Utilities /usbview.zip Lets see the config of your nano v3 I download the Windows driver X64 http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM%20v2.10.00%20WHQL%20Certified.zip What I unzip on the desktop THEN I modifier following config files: FTDIPORT. INF and FTDIBUS.INF VID_0403 & PID_6001.DeviceDesc = "USB Serial Port" by VID_0403 & PID_0000.DeviceDesc = "USB Serial have 2 Save Files I reinstall the modifier Drivers in device Manager, I Validated Force facility and 2 times If the installer is Drivers I recover my Arduino V3 buy it on DealExtreme Now here is a new Works

yes i translated it myself with google just now haha, but it seems i have been struck by the FTDI chip bad update? yes? going to give that a try now, i will let you know the result

i have those files prior to the editing instructions, but i have no clue how to install them

can you give the result of program USBView.exe

below attachment show USBview at startup, and the program to install arduino driver automagicly and failing.

give me the information usbview Loc11 and LOCation12 by clicking

ok, and the pages of loc11 and 12 are leaving out a little bit on the bottom (due to scroll bar system),

here i pasted it:

Loc11:

I do not see any of serial Port
I feel that the USB driver your motherboard is bad install
have you tried to change the usb port?
Conversely with the keyboard

yes, i had the same idea, however, when i plug out my keyboard, put arduino into the hub the keyboard was in previously, it yields the same results regardless :frowning:

have you tried with another computer?

Yes, i have run it on an windows XP Laptop just now, as i expected, it works just fine. In the past i had no problems whatsoever on other computers. i think i am having an issue with my motherboard drivers in windows 7 x64 home premium.

below the sucsessfull result of arduino on an XP laptop conected to com10.

i have recently contacted the costumer support of my motherboard's manufacturer. please view below for a detailed describtion of my error. i think it can be helpfull to you if your trying to identify this problem.

Dear asrock,

I have been using you product for a while along with another OS, but i have decided to go back to W7. and thus i had formatted my drive, and clean installed W7 x64
home premium. everything went the way as i expected it to go, but for some reason i am unable to install the drivers of some devices on you product. I have been searching and asking for help for two weeks now among the community of another device called arduino but unfortunately they are unable to provide me an answer to this strange event of being unable to install the drivers even though i have the correct drivers downloaded from the official websites for my hardware. and i have some hope you could guide me in the right direction.

symptoms;

  1. unable to install driver for: USB Controller
  2. unable to install driver for: USB Controller (yes another entry)
  3. unable to install driver for: Ethernet Controller

Error (all 3 have same error on manual driver install):
"Windows found driver software but encountered an error while attempting to install it" CANNOT COPY TO SPECIFIED TARGET.

and along with the error the screen is showing the driver software it found which i manually appointed to. also when i hit "scan for hardware changes" in the device manager, it will retry installing all previously failed drivers, and it shows a whole bunch of usb thingys failing to install, and some controllers failing to "find" a driver.
but what is strange is, that all my USB 2.0 ports do work*(see note)! only my usb 3.0 ports from the motherboard wont do anything.

note: however, one device ("arduino") also cannot communicate even on usb 2.0 ports, its symptoms are the same as i stated above (cannot copy to target) but it does show its name and all.. i simply cannot install its driver, its refusing to copy bla bla and such, i dont know what to do anymore, there is NONE info on this driver error as of now.

also i am afraid to encounter this error in the future with other devices, as i already ruled out the devices proper functionality.

and that is pretty much the end of the story. on the forums of Arduino i have uploaded a couple of print screens which you might be interested in also, and maybe you can try and read their community's responses and some more info i wrote there if there is anything you miss in my story here. (but for the images regarding the error and a view on my device manager and such, i definitely recommend you to visit the link i provide).

PS; (the image attachments are below every post and can be viewed by guests (unregistered users), my username is nickn4, the starter of the topic)
PS2; also because the drivers are related to devices on the motherboard i thought asrock could provide me support.

i hope you can guide me in the right direction.

Nick

i have just recieved an message from ASrock with instructions on how to proceed, for those encountering similar or same problem i will post the reply below, and i will let you all know what result i got.

Hello,

I have read the thread and check the screenshots. Never saw this error message before.

If you have managed to install all Windows updates, then I guess that either the Ethernet controller was working fine before, or the updates have been installed otherwise. Maybe slipstreamed onto the installation DVD?

Ethernet adapter: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Audio: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

ASMedia USB3.0: http://66.226.78.22/downloadsite/drivers/All/USB/ASMedia_USB3(v1.16.15.0).zip

  • Restart the system

If this does not help then I recommend making another fresh Windows 7 installation. Please use an original Win7 installation DVD. With or without integrated Service Pack 1, but without additional updates. Disconnect all USB storage devices. Load default BIOS setting via F9 in BIOS. Then install the same driver as mentioned before.

Thanks,

ASRock Support
