Hi All,
First timer here. I believe I'm having driver issues. When I plug my Arduino Uno into my Windows 7 laptop via USB, I get one red light and one blinking red light.
When I go in Device Manager, there was nothing that said "arduino" in Ports or in Unknown/Other. So, I went ahead and added hardware, and used the Arduino Uno driver I downloaded from the site. It's listed under COM4 now. However, there's a little warning sign in device manager and it's telling me the device can't start. I have restarted both the computer and the arduino.
I'm not sure where to go from here. Any ideas?

Try installing Arduino 1.6.5 r5 (revision 5). The latest version 1.6.8 has issues. 1.6.5 r5 has USB driver installation....automatic.
If things are working properly, then Windows Device Manager should show up a new COM device when the arduino is connected via USB.
If not.... then try ANOTHER arduino board to see if something changes.
No joy. Unfortunately don't have another arduino to test with right now. This is my first time ever working with arduino.
What USB/Serial chip is on the board, near the USB connector? 16U2, or something else?
Forgive the ignorance, but where do I find that?
It's an Uno R3 if that helps.
It's marked right on the chip itself.
Try the Loopback Test and get your driver working.
