Driving a brushed motor ESC with a PCA9685 16-Channel Servo Driver

Can I control a brushed motor ESC using a PCA9685 16-Channel Servo Driver as if I was controlling a servo? I plan to power the Arduino and the PCA9685 using 5V supply that I get directly from the 2S LIPO batteries through a 5V voltage regulator. Should I cut the red wire coming from the ESC (black, red, white cable)? The ESC, Arduino and PCA9685 would be sharing a common ground.

Yes you can control it. Whether you might want to cut the red wire depends on what ESC you're talking about, what other power it has and if it has a BEC.

Thanks Steve,
This is the ESC I am using and it has a BEC.

Powered directly from the 2S lipo? If so you don't want the BEC fighting with the 5V supply. I wouldn't CUT the red wire though, just take it out of the servo connector (push the little tang down) and tape it out of the way. You might need it next time you use that ESC.
