Driving an LCD with 2 enable pins using a 74hc595

So the idea came up to use a shift register to drive an LCD (4X40) with two enable pins. I found a library here that works for LCDs that have only one enable pin. I know it's kind of a long shot, but I wanted to know if anyone in the forum has ever messed around with/successfully gotten an LCD with 2 enable pins to work with a shift register. I'm sorry this sounds kind of repetitive lol. If you want any clarification on what I'm asking or want further info please leave a comment and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to accomplish what you want to do.

When you use a 40x4 display like yours you are essentially using two 40x2 displays with all except the Enable pins in parallel. Take a look at this thread --> http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php/topic,5014.0.html which may give you some ideas on how to proceed even though it does not use a shift register.

Thank you very much for the reply!! I'll definitely look into it and see what I can do!
