Ds18b20 overheating

Im using a ds18b20 with a Controlbyweb x410, which has a dedicated 1 wire connection using 5v, 0v, and data input. Occasionally the sensor overheats till it is too hot to touch and the temp indication fails. After switching off the x410 for a while the sensor works ok. Any ideas why?

Hi, @howieleem
Welcome to the forum.

Which construction version of the sensor are you using?
What environment is it in?
Is the sensor insulated electrically?

Can you please post some images of your project?
So we can see your component layout?

I am not familiar with "Controlbyweb x410" can you please post a link to manual/info on the controller?

Thanks.. Tom.. :+1: :coffee: :australia:

So did you turn parasite power off in the software (as you're powering directly)?

These devices make neat little heaters but to get them to work you have to get them to conduct energy. That is easily accomplished by connecting the power backwards or forcing energy in the output normally by tying it high.

Send an email to controlbyweb they are very helpful and respond quickly .
It’s not an Arduino issue !! Either faulty 410 or ds18b20 ( more likely).

They will get hot if connected wrongly , and may then be faulty even if re wired correctly .
