DS28CM00 I2C Silicon Serial Number

Spent some time this weekend trying to work with a DS28CM00 I2C Silicon serial number IC with little success. Datasheet and information are available on the Maxim site here: Mixed-signal and digital signal processing ICs | Analog Devices. I've worked with a number of other I2C devices and have generally found them painfully simple to integrate with, so I'm a bit perplexed as to why this one is being so persistently difficult :). This typically means I'm overlooking something simple.

Does anyone have experience working with this IC? Any hints/tips/suggestions regarding working with it?

I'm fairly good with soldering small SMT parts and have inspected the part under magnification looking for solder bridges, etc and am reasonably confident that this is not an issue with mechanical connection / heat damage / etc. I even went so far as to mount a second device on breakout board and see identical results.

Do you have pull-up resistors connected? Have you run an I2C bus scanner?

According to page 9 of the spec, the pull-up resistor size looks pretty critical. Try checking if you can if the rise time condition (300 nS) is being met.
