dual laser up down counter

PLEASE HELP! I have been working on this project for weeks and I am struggling. I got it to work with 4029 ics, now I’m trying to make it work with arduino. Two LDR’s are hooked to A0 and A1, a laser is pointed at each. When some walks through the lasers a breaks the beams I want the arduino to count one. If the person were to break ldr1 prior to ldr2, it would add one to a people variable and if a person were to break ldr2 prior to ldr1, it would subtract one. This would essentially be used to count how many people are in a room and display the “People: #” on a LCD. I don’t have much code for this, really just introducing the variables. Please help, thank you!
