Got my first laser printer so want to knock up a PCB.
Have decided i want to make the PCB of 4x 7 segment displays being run by a MAX7219.
But don't seem to be able to find a 7 segment displays in any of the library's (or the MAX7219, for that matter)? surly its got to be such a common part it is somewhere!??
There is - you probably aren't using the right search terms.
Doing a search for "seg*" led me to quite a few.
Alternatively go straight to the "display-hp" library, or the "led" library then the "MSA*5C" expansion.
If you use a pre-defined part though, you'll need to be very careful to check the pin layout and connection. There is no "standard" for 7-segment pin connections, so make sure yours matches the part you use, and don't be afraid to make your own part!

There are LOTS of "7-segment displays" with wildly varying sizes and pinouts. For some reason, there seems to be very little standardization to such parts, even when the digits are the same size. To make a PCB, you'll need to find or create a part definition that matches the particular display you'll actually be using.
I've made eagle parts that are supposed to match the Sure Electronics 0.8 inch and 1.8 inch displays, but I haven't actually bought any yet, so they're VERY untested...
