Easiest way to control the speed of a motor?

Hello everyone! I was thinking of building a scooter device sort of like a segway. I way going to buy this http://tinyurl.com/6tybtbv motor. It is 750 watts. What is the easiest way to control the motor from a Arduino digitally? Do I have to buy a motor controller?

36V 750W DC motor. Yes you will need a motor controller and some serious heatsinking. Good luck finding one that goes up to 36V. The Monstor Motor Shield sold by Sparkfun will cover your current requirements, but it only does 16V...

www.4qd.co.uk will astound you with the amount of information they provide on motor control. As an aside they also have a suitable controller for your application. Using a 5 volt drive from your arduino it’ll give you all you need plus regen braking. I’ve no commercial interest in the company, just a very happy customer.
