Easiest way to run a Walmart blender with an Arduino UNO

I'm very new to this.
Is it possible and what is the easiest way to signal on/off for a blender (like a magic bullet) using an Arduino.
The arduino doesn't have to provide power for it, just to turn it on and off, I'm hoping the blender can just be connected to the wall outlet for power.

Thanks in advance

The powerswitch tail seems the most idiot proof.
Thanks!

I agree

Maybe none of my business, but that's one thing I wouldn't want automated. Unless you're building an exceptionally gruesome mousetrap.....
Also not an appliance that would make for good practical jokes. An alarm clock? Hopefully dairy or eggs are not an ingredient in your morning smoothie.
Why do you need to do this with an Arduino if I may ask?

I was wondering the same thing..

You don't say why you particularly want to use an Arduino, so I guess it's because you think it's the easiest solution.. There are lots of home automation products that enable you to turn devices on and off remotely, for example Belkin WeMo, which you can get off the shelf for far less than the cost of an Arduino and power switch tail..

Perhaps he is?

Can't say I have too many qualms about that (considering how much rat poison I use around here). :fearful:

Maybe he doesn't want to pay for the ingredients to make a protein shake.

Why you specifically mentioning Walmart. You can use Blender instead of Walmart Blender, Anyhow i am also looking for the solution to add up in my collection.

What's all this interest in Internet-enabled blenders?

XD

Do you get Big Bang Theory in AU?

Because, as Sheldon similarly said, 'Everything's better with Bluetooth.' 8)

Has anybody noticed that the OP has not answered the question as to why he wants to do this ?
Doesn't that bother anyone ?

Par for the course.

I corresponded, more than a few years ago, with a guy in another forum who wanted to use his blender as "an instrument", like it was an oboe or a chain-saw or something.

This only confirms my suspicions that he is onto a billion dollar innovation and wants to keep it under wraps. It's probably like the memory restoration device in MIB 2.
Either that or the powerswitch tail got him :astonished:

Sorry for replying again, we should probably lay this thread to rest.

I don't think it matters. From the infomercials I have seen, it appears you have to press down on the magic bullet in order to turn it on - so you'd have to open it up & short out that switch to allow switching the AC power to have any effect:

"1. Load the ingredients into the Short Cup, Tall Cup, or Party Mug.
2. Twist on the Cross, or Flat Blade until the blade and cup have a tight seal.
3. Line up the tabs, place THE BULLETâ„¢ on the Power Base and press down on the cup to turn it on.

Here's how it works: As long as you're holding it down, the Magic Bullet is on. When you want the blades to stop, simply let go.

Or, for hands-free operation: Press down and gently turn the cup clockwise until the tabs lock under the lip of the Power Base. Now the Magic Bullet is in Lock On mode where the motor runs continually. To turn it off, simply twist the cup back counterclockwise and release the cup."

You guys left some hilarious replies, interesting coming back to this post after a while .

My end goal is to have a protein shake mixer that I can operate with a touch screen, just a pet project.
I figure if I can make one that runs off my computer, it shouldn't be too hard to do with an Android device?
As for the blender, I would hopefully leave the blender plugged in and with the power switch turned on, and then use the Powerswitch Tail to give it power whenever I send it a signal from an Anderoid touchscreen.

Obviously, its easier to press a button but I also want some other functions to occur before the mixing.
