Hello, I am currently building a arduino ultrasonic sensor cane and I am wondering how difficult is it to make the arduino remote? I just want it so reside within the cane and work from there. Is it as easy as uploading the code, removing the cable and plugging in a battery pack, or is there many more steps needed to be taken? Thanks
You want to use Remote and that immedeately raises the question about the range You need.
Supposing You have the code ready, uploading is done by USB connection. Disconnecting the USB and plugging a powerbank to the controler, yes, it works fine.
What is an "ultrasonic sensor cane" ?
A diagram with dimensions marked on it would be a big help

I think that the OP is asking if the Arduino, once programmed and running will need the PC cable still connected, even though it is powered by a battery?
If it is running on the battery, you do not need the PC cable connected.
