EasyVR 3 Shield Not Responding

I recently got an EasyVR 3 Shield and Arduino Uno board. When I use the EasyVR 3 Shield it connects and works fine with the EasyVR Commander but when I try to use it with Arduino it will upload to the board and then in the Serial Monitor it will give me the error:

Bridge not started!
EasyVR not detected!

I’m using the latest version of Arduino and the latest EasyVR Library. I’m using the generated code from the EasyVR Commander.
