Recently I was soldering up a couple of standalone arduinos and I wanted to be able to upload sketches to them eventually via USB. I read on the forums here that a lot of people are using those "Baite" USB to serial breakout boards off ebay, and then soldering DTR to RST etc. So anyway, I ordered a couple of these from an ebay seller in China, and when they arrived, they were not the pictured Baite board but something different. I know there's a lot of this bait and switch stuff going on with Chinese sellers on ebay so I fully expected it, but this time, one of the units I bought was utterly shocking - it actually works without having to solder or do anything to it! This is what it looks like:
The second unit I received looks identical (not a "Baite" board as advertised), but it is laid out exactly like those Baite boards and requires soldering as usual. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend trying the seller I bought off because there is no guarantee you'll get that exact unit - seems to be pot luck.
There are a couple of other ebay sellers with auctions featuring pictures of these "working out of the box" units on ebay at the moment. They are a little more expensive though but if you want something that you don't need to mod, they may be the go.
Anyway, I just wanted to share that with you all in case it helps someone. 
Hopefully by the end of the year we will see more of these modules?! (Shush, I can dream, OK?)
