Eclipse IDE request

I'm new to Arduino and am looking at its capabilities.
I was wondering if anyone has looked into using the Eclipse IDE to do code development. I'm a little familiar with it and it seems to be very powerful and open source so it follows the Arduino philosophy.
Has anyone tried it or is there any reason why this couldn't be used?

Hi Bruce, welcome to the Arduino.
A number of people use Eclipse with the Arduino, there is info in the Playground (the arduino wiki) Arduino Playground - Eclipse
