Hello,

The eight LEDs flash only when I press my thumb on the 74HC595 shift register. I shouldn't have to touch the components after uploading the code, so I need assistance. The video is attached.

Any help is appreciated :smiley:

No link to a video is seen (youtube fore example).

Do you have MR and OE/ connected? (MR to +5, OE/ to Gnd)

That is because your solderless bread board that I guess you are using is not very good and not actually making contact to all the pins of the chip. Try moving the circuit to use another set of pins or get another piece of solderless bread board.

Better yet, use strip board and an IC socket to solder up your circuit.
