That DIY doc seems to indicate that making a DIY LDR-LED is not as good as getting an opto-coupler. But at my 3 local component shops, I have no idea what to ask them for. They offer no advice themselves...
I saw a CNX82A for 1€65. It says it's for audio signals... ?
