Electronic ink source

I was thinking the arduino would probably make a good e-reader controller. It only has to send a display to the page once and it sticks. I was looking around though and I can't find any source of electronic ink displays. It looks like it's all bulk stuff, I checked out the forum and I didn't see anyone looking to do a project like this so I was wondering if it was because:
A) I didn't search well enough
B) You can't buy e-ink displays as a consumer yet
C) It can't be done.

I was checking out some other sites and they mentions something about getting it as a sample but I have no idea where to start.

The e-ink display used in the Sony Reader is built for Sony. The display, and a development kit, is available. I don't recall right now who makes the thing, but they want $4,000 for the development kit and 1 display.

If you're interested, I'll ask my son when he wakes up. He'll know.
