Electronically free zone around jumper wire

I am trying to measure the voltage outputted by a sensor, but since my program seems to be picking up the small bits of electricity in the air around the Arduino, is there any way to create an electronically free seal? Or any way for me to cancel out the noise? Thanks a lot.

Probably, you forgot to connect the grounds.

Thank you so much for answering! It probably is the grounds that are doing it, seeing as I am a complete amateur with anything to do with an Arduino. One more question, how would you properly connect the grounds? I have wires running from ground and the 5V pin to my breadboard, and have another wire attached to the sensor that runs to the A0 pin, and am trying to measure the voltage produced by an external sensor. Thanks again!

Is the sensor's ground connected to the Arduino though: that's not clear from your description. Draw a quick circuit sketch and post a phone pic of it, that would help our understanding.

If it's not, then trying to measure voltage with one wire is like trying to measure a battery voltage with only the red probe on the +ve and not touching the black to the other end.

Coaxial cable may help

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.

Please read the first post in any forum entitled how to use this forum.
http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php/topic,148850.0.html then look down to item #7 about how to post your code.
It will be formatted in a scrolling window that makes it easier to read.

Can you please post a copy of your circuit, in CAD or a picture of a hand drawn circuit in jpg, png?

Thanks.. Tom..
