Emergency "FIX" for broken garage saftey eyes

I'm broke.

I was installing a seperate Wireless relay for the thing because the wireless it has sucks. Wires came loose and THEN I discoverered.... HEY these have NO POLARITY markings. Guess what did have polarity marked? A SPST switch.... Its a wonder they didn't fry it. Anyhoo, I finally hooked em back after getting sick and tired of the screw binding terminals I replaced them with Y'd out dupont females, and the LEDs on them just quasi-randomly flickered, both had same pattern. The button caused a jolt of movment and relay to bulb clicked a few times. (bulb burnt out).

I hear the voltage source to these eyes is 5.5V and medium held by a pull-up. The eyes will pull that down in a pulse in reponse to IR rx. Easy as pie with an Arduino. But how to maintain power?

Not terribly good at explaining things either.

How about a few photos? We might be able to figure out what you are on about ... :grinning:

I fear put the eyes on 24v instead of 6v. Nothing was labeled... Is now. I wish to imitate an eye... They pull down supply line to near zero in pulses

a SPST dwitch will literally just connect two wires together, what polarity do you expect it to have?

A picture will show more than 1000 words can describe.

I still haven't figured out what "safety eyes" are. Google only shows me pictures of fake eyes for teddybears.

Me neither.

Maybe its a test, if we dont know what "safety eyes" are we are not supposed to answer.

Hi,

Can you please post a copy of your circuit, in CAD or a picture of a hand drawn circuit in jpg, png?
Can you please post a picture of your project thanks?

Tom...

Safety eyes I suspect he is talking about the been that detects an object in the doors way. It prevents the door from closing on someone or something.

If that's the case, then the model of Garage Door Opener makes a difference. Each manufacturer uses slightly different methods so replacing it with something other than the original equipment is frustrating. Consumer safety laws require the door obstruction detector to not be easily bypassed, so you aren't likely to be able to do it with a simple switch.

I disable mine by taping them together. Hehe
