Enabled CDN on Forum

Hi everyone!

Quick heads-up - this morning at 10:50AM CEST we've enabled a new CDN on https://forum.arduino.cc

What does it mean?

Starting today, you should notice speed improvements while browsing forum's threads and categories.

Do let us know if you encounter any issue!

Do let us know if you encounter any issue!

Seems a lot slower to me. Click a link, and look at a half blank page for several seconds, before it fills in.

At the time of PaulS's post, I was experiencing the same slowness issue, but now that doesn't happen anymore and everything is working fine for me.

Well, it seems to have made the mods job harder.

PM me, please.

(No, I haven't noticed any speed improvement either, and this topic was not, IMO, the best way to announce this new "feature" )

Hello,

we fixed the IP issue last Friday.
@AWOL, the fact you did not notice any improvement does not mean there were no improvements. You are probably in the USA were our servers are so the difference is not that high. For the majority of our users (not in the USA) the load time went down from 2.2s to 1.2s as a mean especially in Asia and Oceania.

We also added a Web Application Firewall blocking some security attacks and compressed the mean size of the page from 522KB to 400KB.

What is your proposal to announce changes instead of using this page? Can you propose something more suitable?

Thank you!

No, I'm not in any of the Americas, Africa or Asia/Oceania

As to the announcement, how about repurposing the adverts?

I mean "Enabled CDN on Forum" isn't the most attention-grabbing headline, is it?

IP reporting now seems much better, thanks.

IMHO this Section of the Forum is the correct place to announce developments to the Arduino website.

I have said on several previous occasions that I wish to see more involvement from the Arduino team in the Forum - especially this part of it.

Just about the only time I ever visit this section is to move a misplaced post out to a more appropriate section.

I do, however, read all my PMs. (Hint)

Habits of a lifetime are there to be changed.

I do, however, read all my PMs. (Hint)

But nobody else can read PMs sent to you

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I just think a simple PM saying "We're about to make a change to the forum that will impact negatively on the unpaid work that you do on our behalf" wouldn't take too much effort.

And I wouldn't assume that the recipient of the polite note would immediately know that CDN doesn't mean Central Daily News

However you look at this...

Upside was an ANNOUNCEMENT by STAFF.

Downside there was a BUG.

Upside it was passed back and resolved with great speed.

We should take it as a WIN.

Bob.
