Error Boards Manager

Hello,
unfortunately I can not connect to the Arduino Board Manager. I have attached screenshots of Sketch.

What could be the problem?

Thank you very much.

Best regards
Frank

in most cases that could be anything from a simple ISP issue to Antivirus to a browser setting.

If you can reach the GIT from a browser maybe try it from there.

Maybe turn off your antivirus (especially if its Avast).

Try PING http://downloads.arduino.cc.

if those dont help then a possible IDE issue and for that more information would be needed...IDE version. OS, Network connection type etc.

I think these are usually caused by the firewall but the 416 error code is "Requested Range Not Satisfiable" so I have no clue what that means.

That repository doesn't contain the necessary tools for any of the Arduino cores and it only has the hardware definitions for AVR and SAM. If you want to do a manual installation of the Arduino cores you need to use the tool download links from downloads.arduino.cc/packages/package_index.json and it's also much easier to get the package download from there too instead of trying to get them out of the GitHub repository. You also need to create a specific folder structure. It's a fairly complex process to do a manual installation but it is possible and I can give specific instructions if that is required.

Hi,

I have found a solution for the problem.
The board manager works only under Sketch version 1.6.4. Newer versions always cause the error message "Error downloading ..."

@Ballscrewbob ping 'http://downloads.arduino.cc' ends in "403 forbidden ..."
Avira on / off does not succeed
OS Win10, Wifi Network

It should be "https://www.arduino.cc/"
I am behind a VPN so it wont resolve properly from here either using ping or tracert.
But works fine using MONTIS

Odd that it doesn't work in 1.6.12 for you as more people seem able to use than not.

Perts idea of firewall issues may also be a very good clue and including the URL JSON in Additional boards manager is certainly worth a try.

When you has 1.6.12 was it an installed copy or running from an unzipped location ?

Hello,

Monitis offers different latencies and server responses for "https://www.arduino.cc/".

I have already tried several additional board manager URL's with the result that the same error message was displayed.

I have tested the following sketch versions as a Windows installation file (.exe): 1.6.12; 1.6.10; 1.6.7; 1.6.6 always with the same error message.

Only the version 1.6.4 runs the board manager correctly.

I also have my antivirus software and firewall turned off, with the result that has been re-issued the error message.

Best regards
