error compiling uploading vista

Hi I'm completely new to arduino. when I try to upload the blink example i get the following error:

Hi,

I have exactly the same error message. I'm running Vista.

I thought something was a bit strange when the board automatically installed without me directly installing the drivers. The board does appear to be communicating with my laptop however.

gaz: Are you using Arduino 0009? Do you see the same problem with Arduino 0010?

How about if you just compile it without trying to upload. Do you get the error then? Do you have the right port selected?
