error message while trying to upload daphc sketch

I just tried to upload a daphc sketch (to play a sound loop through the WAVE shield from SD card)
and it seemed to be jammed or taking way to long. I pressed the reset button on the shield and
stopped it mid-way, as I am new to this. I tried to upload it again but now it shows the same place
it was uploaded to and jammed at before and gives me an error message.

This is the error message that I get-

avrdude: no programmer has been specified on the command
line or the config file. Specify a programmer using the -c option and try again

I have uploaded this sketch on another Uno/Wav shield and it was successful. I am wondering how
to respond to this message and correct it so I can upload it.

No rush as I put the WAV shield on an arduino that I uploaded the sketch to yesterday.
It is working fine. I would just like to know how to 'reset' the daphc file for uploading
onto the arduino for when I have my next WAV shield ready to go. I am not sure what
has changed since yesterday (other than a different Arduino!), except for me updating
my boards. I am new to coding so I would like to know what the error means and
how to change what I need to fix it.

Which pins is the wave shield using? Can you upload code to the Arduino after removing the wave shield?
