Error On Upload to Arduino Uno

Hey guys, i just got an arduino uno and decided to upload a blink sketch to it in order to test it out. I am running the 2017 MacBook pro, and plugged in the arduino with a USB-C adapter. When i clicked upload, i got the following error:

Arduino: 1.8.5 (Mac OS X), Board: "Arduino/Genuino Uno"

Sketch uses 928 bytes (2%) of program storage space. Maximum is 32256 bytes.
Global variables use 9 bytes (0%) of dynamic memory, leaving 2039 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 2048 bytes.
avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "COM1": No such file or directory
Problem uploading to board. See http://www.arduino.cc/en/Guide/Troubleshooting#upload for suggestions.

This report would have more information with
"Show verbose output during compilation"
option enabled in File -> Preferences.

I have no idea what that means and how to fix it. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

COM1 is usually not the Arduino. Did you select the correct port in the tools menu in the IDE?

It's actually strange that a MAC refers to it as COM1.

I just tried both ports and it said it wasnt responding. What configuration should i set it to to get it working?

I'm not a mac user. First question is if your Uno is recognised?

There is a troubleshooting guide in the installation and troubleshooting section. Your question would probably have fitted better there as this is not really a programming question.
