Error uploading: avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

OS: OSX 10.9.5
Board: Diecimila

My board lights up with L LED solid. The correct board is selected, and the port is definitely correct: /dev/tty.usbserial-A7006vR7

I was able to upload to my board on my parents' windows PC but am getting the error: "avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding" when using my mac.

When I hold shift, it doesn't try as long to upload, and I get this error: avrdude: usbdev_open(): did not find any USB device "usb"

No big changes in my computer software.

The above error because

  1. if you choosen wrong board; wrong port
  2. Your bootloader might get crashed.

If bootloader crashed led pin 13 always remain high or keep flickering frequently speed than blink example program

The light typically stays on unless I hit the reset button. I haven't run any programs because I can't upload to the board on OS X.
