I have built a standalone board with a 16MHz crystal, power in and an AVRISPmk2 header. i can successfully burn the bootloader from the arduino IDe or from atmel studio but when I connect the serial wires to burn a sketch I get:
avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00
What is the problem ? my serial wires are just standard cable 500mm long. Is that too long
No idea's ? putting the chip into the arduino works fine so a connection problem I guess but wiring is fine
How exactly do you connect your selfmade Board to your computer? I guess you are using somekind of Serial to USB connector?
My first guess would be to look for any of these: http://www.arduino.cc/en/Guide/Troubleshooting#toc1
Or to update your drivers: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
hm, my problem does not seem to be covered in those. the UNO board works fine and i can upload the bootloader to my board with the AVRISPmk2 with no problems, putting the chip back into the UNo board works but using the arduino to load a sketch into the home made board fails.
I'll try a shorter wire but I thought serial cables could be quite long although I'm just using wire.
