Error Uploading

Hello, We are trying to do Project 23- Wireless ID Card entry system - RFID card -
When we try to upload the code it says: 'Error uploading, check if the selected board is currently available.'
My kit is from Elegoo - I don' know if that matters. But I'm not sure why we would have an error if I"m working on the arduino cloud.

thanks,
mom of 9 year old.

A few people are reporting issues with that brand of board recently so good job you mentioned it.

Pretty sure it uses the FTDI driver which is becoming less popular since "FTDI gate"

You might want to start out with the desktop IDE first to ensure it works locally before moving to CREATE.
That may also involve installation of the proper driver too but there is lots of help around for that if you do.

BTW just checking that you are using the ONLINE editor "CREATE" as opposed to the regular desktop one ???

If you are using CREATE did you say YES to the installation of the bridge client certificate and anything else it asked ?
You should have a small Arduino ICON on the lower right side of the taskbar and if you dont then you either didn't say yes to something or it wasn't installed properly. If thats the case you can re-install but remember to say yes when its asks anything (its quite safe and secure in fact those permissions are there for security amongst other things.

For what it's worth, I just tested the online editor with an Elegoo Mega 2560 and it worked fine.

Hi BobKay.

Glad to know yours works.

The brand name has come up a lot recently and not in good ways.
Which driver chip does yours use ?

I don't know how to find that out. If you could point me towards a hint I'll check and get back to you.

Its the chip near the USB connector a good pic will do if its too hard to read.

The chip nearest the USB connector is a 5mm x 5mm 32-pin (8 on each side) component that says:

ATMEL (logo)
MEGA16U2
1634 PH
A8BYFA

I'd attach an image but I don't see any way to attach an image to a post.

This may be academic anyway, since I'm using a Linux box and the FTDI-gate problem is a Windows driver issue, is it not?

Not 100% sure how far the ftdi gate went for OS ?

However the ELEGOO's that seem to have issues seem have been based on FTDI so not sure whats going on now.
You just added a touch of confusion LOL.

Including an OS is always a vital bit of info and I did forget to ask the OP for that so thank you for bringing that up.

There is a thread somewhere about how to attach pics if you want to look it up for future reference.

Here's the image FWIW:

(and incidentally a way to work with this convoluted image attach system)

Okay, what's up with this???

The message has the following error or errors that must be corrected before continuing:
You have exceeded the number of posts you can make in a 5 minutes period. Please try again later.

Seriously? For editing a message? ONE post and ONE edit to that post?

The 5 minute limit for new posters is a Spam thing. Without, the forum gets bombarded and we can't ban the posters & delete posts fast enough.

The limit goes away after 50 or 100 posts.

I can appreciate that as an anti-spam thing, but I made one post and got the warning when I edited it and tried to save it.

Everything good comes to he who waits ........for the post limit to drop LOL
It bugged me too.

Really good picture BTW

Thanks...

I can see the point of the five minutes between posts for n00bs as an anti-spam/bot thing, but what purpose is served by making youi wait for five minutes before you can edit it?

Looks like my posts might have the occasional "youi" or "teh" instead of "you" or "the", because I'm not going to sit here twiddling my thumbs for five minutes before I can fix a typo. Yes I do proofread (usually, heh) but it slips by once in a while.

Seems odd that an anti-spam measure can actually result in a string of barely relevant messages aka borderline spam by someone looking to reach the 50- or 100-post mark quicker.

Back on topic [ahem], is that a picture of an FTDI chip?

No its not...

They are usually a DIL flat pack but some were the square pack similar to the one you posted.
Lots of pics on google for them.

Its a question most still ask when drivers are involved as you also have the CH340/341 in the mix now too.
