Error without ANY details? What is wrong?

Hi everybody,

I have a very strange error:

If I load the example "Blink" (and I guess it would be the same with any other example)
and just compile it the compiling is successfull.

Then I changed just one delay
from delay(1000);
to delay(2000);

and then the compiling fails with no details what is wrong?!?
Huh ? What's that ?

this is the just one delay(2000); modified sketch

/*
  Blink

  Turns an LED on for one second, then off for one second, repeatedly.

  Most Arduinos have an on-board LED you can control. On the UNO, MEGA and ZERO
  it is attached to digital pin 13, on MKR1000 on pin 6. LED_BUILTIN is set to
  the correct LED pin independent of which board is used.
  If you want to know what pin the on-board LED is connected to on your Arduino
  model, check the Technical Specs of your board at:
  https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Products

  This example code is in the public domain.

  https://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/BuiltInExamples/Blink
*/

// the setup function runs once when you press reset or power the board
void setup() {
  // initialize digital pin LED_BUILTIN as an output.
  pinMode(LED_BUILTIN, OUTPUT);
}

// the loop function runs over and over again forever
void loop() {
  digitalWrite(LED_BUILTIN, HIGH); // turn the LED on (HIGH is the voltage level)
  delay(2000);                       // wait for a second
  digitalWrite(LED_BUILTIN, LOW); // turn the LED off by making the voltage LOW
  delay(1000);                       // wait for a second
}

And this is the erroroutput I get

Does anybody have an idea what is causing this???

It worked for me! (I just copied & pasted the code, and then ran Verify/Compile, since I don't have an Arduino plugged-in.)

These are the worst. Even when the error message is very cryptic, it at least gives us some small clues about the cause. But when there is nothing at all, it is really a dead end.

I can offer the old faithful: "turn it off and then on again". Restarting your computer is worth a try at least.

Or uninstall the Arduino IDE and install it again.

Yes. I use to ask:
what is the most favorite activity of ALL modern electronic devices?

start anew / reboot.

Or as a variant:
what is the very first and most asked question of any support-hotline?
"Did you restart your device?"

I deactivated all options of the windows exploit protection and firewall and activated them step by step again. The exploit-protection options require a reeboot.

Maybe windows was just unsatisfied with my habit of put computer into standby instead of shutdown / reboot.

I'm very unsure if this switch off / switch on again or the pure rebooting made it work again.
Not worth analysing it. Compiling works again now.

best regards Stefan

Since compiler options use a dash, perhaps it is confused by a dash in the middle of a file path. Try an account that doesn't have a dash in the name.
