Escape room puzzles (need info on how to build them using arduino)

Hi, guys!

I'm working on opening an escape room, and i was thinking to use some magic in some of the puzzles. The problem is, since i'm a newbie in the Arduino world, i don't know what do i need to build them, what parts to buy and so on. Let's say i would manage the programming part.

So if there is someone who can help me out with some advices, you have bellow some more details about the puzzle:

Puzzle 1: there will be a fireplace in the room. The players have to put a dragon egg inside of the fireplace and close the door. When they do that (and only if the egg is inside, so i need to validate this question somehow, i was thinking with a weight sensor or just a simple button and check if it's pressed or not), sound will start to play, then some lights will light up, and then a secret compartment will open above the fire place.

I neeed a list with what parts i need to buy to make the mechanism work.

these are pretty sensitive to the weight of an egg.
you could make a nest, hinge the back and have the front rest on one of these. when the egg is placed, the switch would change state.

turn your hand, fingers up. attach a switch to one finger, so when the egg is placed, the switch changes state

you find these in old washers, dryers, microwaves, etc.

you need a latch, if you have an old door knob with the half curve bit that is springing loaded, you could use that to latch. then put the solenoid so it pushes that back to allow the door to open, probably put a spring on the door so it opens a bit.

"All that" is workable with an ATTiny Arduino which only has 8 pins on the whole chip.

Given the hardware, I would expect a classroom full of highschool students to each complete the entire project in only 2-3 lessons. That's less than 2 hours classroom time. If they're building the hardware from parts, then add a few more hours. Plus a few more hours for replacing the parts that doofus down the back dropped.
