ESP32-D Micro SD Intermittent Upload Failure

Hi,

I have 20+ ESP32s of varying types and all but one work perfectly. Now I know the ESP32-D Micro SDs are very cheap and I could just discard it, but I hate waste. The problem I have is, it will program after about 4 or 5 attempts. The port is listed in the Tools>>Port menu and all looks good while attempting to program but it then fails stating that the port does not exist or is busy. Now being a veteran of the Arduino IDE, I know the port is not busy and does exist because if I use a different board then all works well. I have tried different cables, which is pointless because the cable I use programs other boards perfectly.

Can you think of anything I can do to salvage this? I don’t want to use it in a final project just incase there is an intermittent fault that will cause issues at a later date. If I can get it to program every single time I’ll use it in a project.

Oh, forgot to mention, I use a MacBook Pro to program all my boards.

I would toss it; it sounds like an intermittent fault. The aggravation isn’t worth the $5 to $10 it costs to replace it.

Right, one's time and sanity are worth more than that.

Hi, @lexter333
There used to be a problem with some of the earlier ESP32 boards and loading code.

The solution was to put a 0.1uF cap from reset pin to gnd, I even used a 1uF cap in a pinch to get reliable uploads.

Just a thought..
