ESP8266-01 Red light fine, Blue light rather weak

Authentic UNO R3 Board
Espressif ESP8266-01
DHT22
ESP8266 Power supply - 3.3v external battery (voltage checked)
Simple Temp & Humidity setup utilizing a DHT22

I can't figure out why the Blue light on the ESP8266 blinks but so dimly...as IF it's not getting adequate power.

It fails to respond to AT commands in the Serial Monitor....and all I get in response to commands sent to the ESP8266-01 is "error".

However, the same ESP8266-01 is much brighter when connected to the same battery power supply but away from the UNO Board, for example in a test rig with an FTDI232 board and the ESP8266-01 alone (No Arduino board)

Oddly, if I install a blank sketch, I can get an OK response to the AT command...IF....I move the TX and RX line from 2,3 (for Soft Serial) to 0,1

Could there be a problem with Soft Serial?

Is there a way to test the Arduino Board to see if there a Board Fault ?

I tried several other Arduino boards (Authentic AND clones) all with the same result.

Grasping at straws now for ideas as to the cause of the dim Blue light.

Would someone please give me some suggestions as to what else I can check?

Regarding the dim LED problem, we would need a schematic for your circuit.

Regarding the communications problem, we would need you to post your code as well as the circuit.

quality control of the resistors used for the LED's.

I have a board that has a blindingly bright power LED and a dim TX LED

now, as far as your other issue :
You have an LED connected to pin-2
You send a signal on pin-2 and it lights.
You send the same signal on pin-0 and wonder why the LED on pin-2 does not light.
Does that sum up the question ?

Hi
Welcome to the forum.

You have got the gnd of the UNO and the ESP8266 connected together?

Can you please post a copy of your circuit, in CAD or a picture of a hand drawn circuit in jpg, png?

Thanks.. Tom...
