hi everyone,
I am new iot and tried connected nodemcu esp8266 to laptop, in device manager it does not show under ports section but instead it comes under universal usb controllers as unknown usb device(Device descriptor request failed), i downloaded ch340 drivers but after selecting the folder it says best drivers are already installed.
I also tried uploading code (as com3 automatically appeared) but it shows error :
A fatal esptool.py error occurred: Write timeout
but it also says done uploading but node does not give any output
It looks like you need to install a specific USB-serial device driver for the serial chip used by the board, the most common one for ESP and Arduino clones is CH340.
If you have a windows OS (it must always be specified) download the CH341SER driver from HERE (don't worry about the page language, the CH340 is a chinese chip, so if needed let your browser translate it for you, or just click the blue button).
I downloaded this driver but after running exe it shows best drivers are already installed in your device, also tried to update the driver of unknown usb device that appears after connecting nodemcu but it says this driver is not compatible for device make its for x64 system.
Uninstall the current driver first then try again by installing the driver from here (this is the english page, so you can now read the wide compatibility, including Windows 10/11 and obviously 64 bit OSs, and make sure you click on the correct link):
