esp8266 sends signal to other esp8266 via WIFI

Hello all,

I am brand new to the Adruino/esp8266 world but I think my project should be doable.
What I need to do is have an esp8266 with a PIR sensor attached and send an alert when tripped to another esp8266 that will light an LED to let me know that someone is there.

Where I am weak on is communicating over WFI. I don't know where to begin. I am sure someone has already done this but my search hasn't come up with some good examples that I could utilize.

If anyone could point me in a right direction or a good book that covers this, that would be extremely helpful.
