ethernet jack

Hello, I wanted to relocate the RJ45 socket on my ethernet shield inside my enclosure to a more convenient position. I bought regular RJ45 connectors and soon found out they don't work with the board. I also bought a magjack (RS 741-8477) thinking this was the right replacement but it didn't work.

Does anyone know of where a 100% compatible replacement magjack for the genuine arduino's can be bought from? I would really like to salvage my shield.

I'm confused as to what you have done - desoldered the existing socket? connected a short run of CAT5 from the ethershield to a panel mounted socket? Or what?

Yes, that's what I did. And iIn the process, the old socket didn't survive.
